What Are The Signs Of A Mold Problem?


People only start to recognize mold infestation after health problems started developing.  Warning signs of a mold infestation is sometimes is hard to spot and some people living in homes with mold problems are completely unaware. It is important to know the signs and symptoms when a mold problem occurs.

Strong and unpleasant odor: Mold has a strong and unpleasant smell. Most likely a musty odor is noticeable upon entering a part of the home. Molds usually live in confined or to a specific area, but mold can also survive inside walls or behind wall paper. When molds are hidden in these spaces it can be hard to smell it.

Mold appearance: Mold can survive in any moist or wet area in a house.  Areas that have poor ventilation and damp spaces such as a leaking basement or cellars are usual places that mold may develop. Mold can be easily distinguished from that of soap scum in bathrooms. Molds can a have a cottony, velvety or leathery appearance and have many colors which depend on the type of mold.

Symptoms of mold related-symptoms: Mold infestation may not be easily spotted or even smelled which makes people unaware of it. Be observant on the signs of mold infestation, these may be feeling of exhaustion, water eyes, sinus problems like frequent sneezing, and nasal blockage.

When there is a high concentration of mold in their homes, it is most likely that people feel more comfortable when they are out of their houses.  They may prefer staying at work or shopping at the mall than staying at home. They may feel irritable or start feeling sick upon entering their homes.

If there is a suspicion of having molds at home, do some inspection. Check on damp areas at home like the kitchen, bathroom, basement, plumbing spaces and other areas where there is poor ventilation. If no molds are found, yet if symptoms of mold related health problems are apparent it is best to contact a professional.

Homes that have molds may seem disgusting especially when it can be visibly seen or smelled. But there are people who will not be affected or develop any serious health problems when in contact with very small amount of mold.

People who have allergies may find themselves having a hard time to breathe. It is better to stay away from home and find a place to stay for the meantime until the mold infestation has been controlled.

Immediate action should be done if there is mold infestation at home. It is better to eliminate mold infestation at once rather than ignoring it. Aggressively finding the source of the mold is the best way to be safe. When this problem is not dealt with, this only gives time for the mold to multiply, risking the health of the home’s occupants.
